For order

Liming has been making violins, violas and cellos for 37 years. Each instrument is hand crafted to the highest level of craftsmanship with attention to every detail. Instruments are usually made to order to the buyer's specifications. However, we also carry a range of readymade instruments made by Liming, as well as other old and new instruments made by other luthiers.

Liming specialises in making violins based on the 'Cannon' (Guarneri del Gesù 1742 II Cannone). This is because the Cannon produce the most powerful sound with great carrying power as well as a rich and beautiful tone. However, he can also make violins based on other models such as the Stradivarius based on your preference.

All instruments made for order will be hand made using only top quality tonewood imported from Europe. The top which is of spruce will have straight uniform grain. The head, back and sides will be of European maple with strong flames. In addition, all body tonewood used have been naturally seasoned for at least 50 years.

Instruments will be varnished using top quality Italian varnish. We copy the old looks, without going as far as artificially damaging the instrument.

High quality strings and fittings will also be fitted to each instrument. If you have a preferred brand of strings or fittings, we can customise your instrument to your preference. We will also ensure that the instrument is in the optimum setup guaranteeing the best sound. Furthermore, the sound of your instrument will progressively improve as you play it.

Tone enhancement

Experienced violin makers will know that an instrument's tone depends on many factors. Some of the more important factors to name a few include the bass bar, setup of the sound post and the thickness of the instrument's body.

However, many instruments are not in their optimum state of setup, thus preventing them from reaching their fullest sound potential. If the sound that your instrument produces does not meet your expectations or if you think it can do better, we will help you obtain the best sound from your instrument, unleashing its true potential.
